‘Everybody’s Working for the Weekend’

Murray Pratt Humor, Life, Trucking

Guys watching hockey wearing mullets

Unfortunately, except for those, it seems, who work in trucking.

I felt like having an 80’s retro Monday morning, so I have put on my Jaromir Jagr mullet-cap… you know the one, where the fake mullet is sewn to the back of the cap. I then put on an old Loverboy video on YouTube to see if I can make sense out of what I do – what we do – here at Tailwind.

Over the weekend, as I watched all the people and companies sign-up for the free 30-day trials of our transportation management software application I got to thinking about all those people who, once again, are working on their paperwork over the weekend, and are wondering a) if it will ever end and b) is there a better way to do things.

Everyone’s watching, to see what you will do
Everyone’s looking at you, oh
Everyone’s wondering, will you come out tonight
Everyone’s trying to get it right, get it right

As I come into the office, my customer success team is busy reaching out to all of these folks to help them get organized and set up on the system, trying to find out why they need the software and how it can help them because…

Everybody’s working for the weekend
Everybody wants a little romance
Everybody’s goin’ off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh

You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let’s go

Yes, trucking gets in your blood now doubt. And it’s constantly in motion – and you are constantly in motion. But the reality is that sometimes you have to park the truck. You have to ‘turn it off’ and attend to some of the other things that make up this thing we call ‘life’.

Some romance? Some dancing?

Some ball? Some golf? Some football? Some hockey? – yep, let’s not forget hockey.

Your friends outside the business are waiting for you and they really don’t want to start the party until you get there. Not your ‘business friends’, as you have many. But those lifelong friends who couldn’t give a ‘rat’s’ what you do, who don’t care about your successes or failures – only that you can drop that jump shot from 20-feet when they set you up with a perfect pass.

Everyone’s looking to see if it was you
Everyone wants you to come through
Everyone’s hoping it’ll all work out
Everyone’s waiting, they’re holding out

You like your business. Well, hopefully you like your business in some way – whether it’s that you like solving problems, you like the scorecard of a business and like winning, or you simply like the open road… when it’s open that is!

But there ain’t nothing like the weekend to make you realize that, at the end of your days, it really would not be a fulfilling life if all you did with it was work – work continually at the expense of your family, your friends, and your community.

Everybody’s working for the weekend
Everybody wants a little romance
Everybody’s goin’ off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance

Remember it’s never too late. You CAN make a change. Especially in this – the new year – 2018. You can automate the redundant activities in your business using transportation management software to free up time – time that you can better use on the higher value activities in your business, like finding new customers, finding new loads, negotiating new contracts.

And time you can use to chase your passions in life

You want a piece of my heart

You better start from the start

You want to be in the show

C’mon baby let’s go

And if you do it right you can go sit in the basement, like Wayne and Garth, and rock to Beyonce, or put on your own hat and ‘trip the light fantastic’ on the dance floor at some bar – right beside the pool tables…

Or take in the odd hockey game.
